Employee benefit trends for 2023

There are meaningful benefits you can offer to attract and retain the key talent your organisation needs - find out what trends are forecasted in 2023.

A company with great benefits and culture requires so much more than free coffee, a casual dress code, and a company phone

According to Glassdoor and Indeed’s recent report on workplace and hiring trends for next year, here are the top trends we can expect for 2023:

  • There’s little return from the pandemic pivot to remote and flexible work.
  • Salaries will remain important, but benefits will set employers apart from their competition.
  • Workplace happiness is critical for employee retention.
  • When it comes to diversity and inclusion; younger employees want action.

Flexibility and balance

Since the pandemic, employees will continue looking for job opportunities with flexibility in the workplace. As we enter 2023, remote and hybrid models of working stay at their peak. Organisations are experimenting with different working styles, such as the 4-day week campaign (hard to miss on Linkedin), flexible work hours, and keeping the right balance between remote and on-site work.

Personalised, proactive benefits

Bupa recently discussed how healthcare benefits do not work so well if a one-size-fits-all approach is used. That’s true for us at HSF health plan – giving employees control over their mental and physical health according to their needs. A health cash plan could be the perfect solution, as well as the key to allowing staff to become proactive about their health, instead of reactive.

For example – getting regular dental check-ups instead of waiting until there’s a worsening issue. The digital boom in 2022 will continue into 2023 and healthcare apps and online services will continue to empower employees to prioritise their health.

Upskilling, learning and development

After salary compensation, LinkedIn’s ‘2022 Global Trends Report’ showed that upskilling and giving employees the chance to grow in their roles were top of mind for employees last year. This will remain to benefit candidates and current employees look out for. Providing ways to develop new skills helps your workforce to feel valued and supported.

The post-pandemic uncertain job market can make employees feel uncertain and anxious about their future career prospects. Providing progression presents a huge opportunity to retain your current workforce.

A continued focus on mental health

The well-being of your team remains paramount in 2023 when it comes to mental health. It is estimated by the world health organisation that 12 billion workdays are lost annually due to mental health issues such as depression and anxiety worldwide, so it’s important to put support in place for employees in need.

  • Providing easily accessible healthcare benefits such as an employee assistance programme is great to put in place for employees, should they need to talk or get help. Signposting helpful resources is crucial.
  • Encourage healthier lifestyles through sharing useful content and providing healthier drinks and snacks in the office. You can find a collection of nutritional guides and tips here.
  • Provide resources on topics like mental health and mindfulness to help employees to communicate and be proactive about their well-being. HSF health plan runs regular webinars with Mind, the Mental Health Charity. If you are a policyholder or your employees have the cash plan, we send invites to these throughout the year via email.
  • Organise check-in sessions and catch-ups with your team – we host regular webinars where you can learn all about health. We’ll post regular webinar updates right here at HSF Health Space.
